Strategic Planning

Strategic Planning determines the direction of an organization and the design and implementation of all initiatives that are aligned to the organizational goals. Championed by the CEO, or president of an organization or the superintendent of a school district, the strategic planning process should include feedback from sponsors and stakeholders throughout an organization.

Knowledge Design Group summarizes Strategic Planning as the alignment of ENDs, WAYs, and MEANs.

  • The END: a clear, specific, measureable vision of what you want your organization, or a specific project to achieve in a defined period of time.
  • The WAYs: strategies you will employ to achieve the vision. Strategies are influenced by the context in which you operate. You must consider what will work in your current internal and external environment.
  • The MEANS: describes how you will organize your people and resources to implement the strategies and accomplish the vision.

“Strategic Planning is a process not an event.”
